Your first visit: what to expect and what to bring

Your first visit is free, takes about 30 minutes and comes with no obligation. You talk with our team about your child, look around the centre at 101 West Drive and get straight answers about programs, scheduling and funding. The only thing to prepare is your questions.

Before you come

  1. Book a time. Call (905) 451-3556 or use the booking form. We reply within 24 hours.
  2. Write down your questions. Our 12 questions to ask an ABA provider are a good start.
  3. Think about what matters most. What would make the biggest difference to your child and your family day to day?

What to bring

None of this is required, but it helps us understand your child and plan next steps:

  • any diagnosis or developmental assessment reports
  • reports from other therapists, such as speech-language or occupational therapy
  • daycare or school notes, including an Individual Education Plan (IEP) if your child has one
  • your AccessOAP details, and your benefits booklet if you plan to use insurance
  • a favourite snack or toy if your child is coming

During the visit

  • We ask about your child’s strengths, interests and challenges, and what you’d like to change.
  • We explain how our programs work.
  • You see the rooms where your child would learn and play.
  • We go through scheduling and funding, and answer everything you ask.

After the visit

If you’d like to go ahead, the next step is an assessment with a Registered Behaviour Analyst. The RBA then writes a plan with measurable goals and a recommended schedule, and goes through it with you before therapy starts. There’s no pressure to decide on the day.

Helping your child feel comfortable

  • Tell your child where you’re going in simple words, or show them a photo of the centre.
  • Bring something familiar, like a comfort toy or a favourite snack.
  • Tell us about sensory needs or anything that helps your child stay calm, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
Does my child need to come to the first visit?

Your child is welcome, but doesn’t have to come. Some parents prefer to visit on their own first so they can talk freely, then bring their child for the assessment.

How long is the free visit?

About 30 minutes, including a tour of the centre.
